A pet peeve: I am dining in a restaurant, enjoying my meal, when suddenly the waitperson appears next to me at my table and asks, “Are you still working on that?’ Working? How many times I’ve wanted to pull a hammer or drill out of my purse and exclaim, “Why, yes I am. Here; let me just screw this burger into the bun…”
Ugh!!! I hate that too! Eating at a restaurant is not “work” (unless you have an obnoxious waitperson). You are so good at noticing the little offenses that I feel but that don’t necessarily rise to the level of consciousness. And the same goes for noticing the beauty, the sadness, the injustices. When’s your next novel coming out?

There’s a whole article about the “epidemic” of waiters/waitresses taking food away before we’re done with it. I’ll have to find it…
