He’s Gone

So, Tracy Sugarman, the WWII veteran on whom I based my main character in my third novel, Eugene Walsh, died in Westport, CT–I just learned–back in January.
I’d hoped the book, Mary’s Crossing, would be published before his death, so that he could know how much of his story (and 8-hour interview) I used. Obviously that didn’t happen. And since today is D-Day, I was just about to write him, as I have every D-Day, to thank him for his service to this country. Now it’s too late…Darn it.

Remember them all, for all they did for us.
